Edmonds Driftwood Players (EDP) is an award-winning, volunteer-based, 501(c)(3) nonprofit community theatre that has been entertaining, educating, and enriching the King and Snohomish county communities since 1958, making it one of the oldest continually operating community theatres in Washington State. In November 2018, ARTSWA selected the downtown area of the City of Edmonds as Washington State’s first Certified Creative District, and EDP is proud to be the Certified Creative District’s venue for live theatre.
Theatre Technical Director (TD)
TD Job Description
The Theatre Technical Director (TD) collaborates with the artistic team of the production and provides technical assistance during performances within the framework of Edmonds Driftwood Players (EDP) requirements, under the supervision of the Managing Director (MD).
- Attend production meetings, technical rehearsals, and performances as technical lead for 5 mainstage shows and one or more special events each season as well as any educational programs produced during the summer (mainstage season runs Sept-June)
- Support designers as needed, including programming of ETC Element light board, creating cues in Show Cue System software, and experience in sound design and programming a sound board for body mics (preferably using a Yamaha QL5).
- Recruit, train, and schedule running crews, as needed.
- Maintain inventory of technical theatre equipment and supplies.
- Ensure safe working environment, addressing safety issues and set repairs during run.
- Work collaboratively, completing other duties as needed and/or assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Experience as TD in a High School, College or Community/Professional Theatre or venue setting in the areas of lighting and/or sound design, build, and shop/electrics.
- Consistently display the following skills and ability to lead by example: support of others, efficient communication, collaboration, and working with volunteers of different experience levels.
- Physical strength and agility to execute items listed in Job Description, including push/pull/lift/carry up to 50 pounds.
Other Details
- Part-time, non-exempt employee. Pay: $20.00 to $30.00 per hour DOE.
- Paid holidays are New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.
- Week from Christmas day to New Year’s Day is paid time off
- Schedule: Must be able to cover Tech Week and performances for run of all shows. Performances are Thursday through Saturday evenings, and Sunday matinees. Average 1000 hours per year with weeks averaging anywhere from 5-40 hours per week. Work is mostly evenings and weekends, but some weekday hours may be required during the run of the show. Theatre Build Supervisor
Build Supervisor Job Description
The Theatre Build Supervisor collaborates with the artistic team of the production and provides technical assistance during set design and build within the framework of Edmonds Driftwood Players (EDP) requirements, under the supervision of the Technical Director (TD).
- Design set or work with volunteer designer, ensuring design meets the budgeting requirements and facility limitations (sightlines, masking, safety).
- Supervise and work with volunteers in all aspects of set construction, set dressing, and strike.
- Maintain inventory of shop equipment and supplies, ordering material as needed, within budgets.
- Organize and maintain shop, outside storage, and backstage areas.
Required Qualifications
- Experience as TD in a High School, College or Community/Professional Theatre or venue setting in the areas of lighting and/or sound design, build, and shop/electrics.
- Consistently display the following skills and ability to lead by example: support of others, efficient communication, collaboration, and working with volunteers of different experience levels.
