IMPORTANT NOTICE: Due to the ongoing concern about the spread of COVID-19, the amount of unknowns in the coming months, and the requirement of the state government that Snohomish County (as well as King and Pierce counties) take action to slow the transmission of the virus, Edmonds Driftwood Players’ management and board has made the difficult decision to cancel the April 17-May 10, 2020 production of The Producers. This decision was not made lightly. Extreme consideration was given to our actors, creative team, staff, volunteers, patrons, and the Edmonds community. The organization determined that canceling this production is of the utmost necessity as it is our absolute responsibility to reduce the risk to public health to the best of our ability.
Patrons are encouraged to consider making a donation of their ticket (501 (c) 3 tax write off applies). Any ticket remaining on accounts after April 17 will automatically be donated. Ticketholders may request a refund of the ticket price by emailing [email protected], or calling 425-774-9600.
A New Mel Brooks Musical
Book by Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan
Music and Lyrics by Mel Brooks
Original direction and choreography by Susan Stroman; By special arrangement with StudioCanal
Directed by Dan Posluns
“Bialystock and Bloom! Those names should strike terror and hysteria in anyone familiar with Mel Brooks’ classic cult comedy film. Now as a big Broadway musical, The Producers once again sets the standard for modern, outrageous, in-your-face humor. It is a truly “boffo” hit, winning a record twelve Tony Awards and wowing capacity crowds night after night.
The plot is simple: a down-on-his-luck Broadway producer and his mild-mannered accountant come up with a scheme to produce the most notorious flop in history, thereby bilking their backers (all “little old ladies”) out of millions of dollars. Only one thing goes awry: the show is a smash hit! The antics of Max Bialystock and Leo Bloom as they maneuver their way fecklessly through finding a show (the gloriously offensive “Springtime for Hitler”), hiring a director, raising the money and finally going to prison for their misdeeds is a lesson in broad comic construction. At the core of the insanely funny adventure is a poignant emotional journey of two very different men who become friends.
With a truly hysterical book co-written by Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan (Annie) and music and lyrics by Mr. Brooks, The Producers skewers Broadway traditions and takes no prisoners as it proudly proclaims itself an “equal opportunity offender!” -MTIShows.com
